Garmin Streetpilot C340 Review
Back in 2005, when the Garmin Streetpilot c340 automotive GPS first came out, it was definitely the "flagship model" of the Garmin C-Series GPS devices. Basically, there was two reasons for this, which were: 1. If you were willing to purchase an optional traffic receiver for your Garmin Streetpilot c340, which used to cost about $200 (and included 15 months of service), it would then show you the congested traffic areas, which were presented through convenient color coded maps. However, this traffic services feature is not available in all areas, so it is recommended that you check with Garmin to see if the area that you live in supports this feature. Conclusion: the price for this traffic services feature is a little high, and again, the feature is not available in all areas, but all in all, this is definitely one of the best capabilities of the Garmin c340. 2. The other important feature of the Garmin Streetpilot c340 worth noting, is the advanced text to speech function. In my opinion this is even better than the "traffic services" feature. The text to speech works like this: when you are getting near the street that you need to turn on, it will actually tell you you the name of the street, and which way you need to turn (IE: "turn left onto main street", or "turn right onto baker street"). This is an excellent feature, considering that alot of the older automotive GPS devices would say something like "turn right in 300 feet", which meant that you still had to take your eyes off of your GPS screen, and look for a street sign (which was also a major pain if the street sign wasn't there for some reason). Also, the Streetpilot c340 will even tell you about upcoming points on interest as well. There are far more great features that I could talk about with the Garmin Streetpilot c340, but I believe that I have covered the most important ones. The Streetpilot c340 was the most popular (and the best, in my opinion) out of the Garmin C-series automotive GPS devices, back in 2005. And even today, it is still one of the most sought after Garmin GPS devices, even though it has been discontinued. Fortunately, there is a LOT of refurbished Garmin Streetpilot c340s around, and they can be purchased for very cheap. The "list" price of a Garmin Streetpilot c340 used to be $857, but now refurbished c340s can be bought for about $130 - $180 or so.
